Very often when we speak about Gorillas (Western Gorillas-Eastern Gorillas), we think about them and generalize. We call them Gorillas while in fact there are three subspecies that actually have similar traits. There are type differences. There are three subspecies that are classified on the basis of geographical location. They are: the Mountain Gorilla, Eastern Lowland Gorilla and the Western Lowland Gorilla.

There are two species and four subspecies of Gorilla that are generally recognized: Eastern Gorilla (Gorilla beringei) is also divided into two subspecies: Eastern Lowland Gorilla (Grauer's Gorilla) (Gorilla berengei graueri) and Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla berengei berengei). The other species is the Western Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) and it is also divided into two classes: Cross River Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla diehli) and Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla).
Western Gorillas Eastern Gorillas - History and Distribution
The Gorillas are found in tropical forest habitats. The two principal areas are: equatorial West Africa and eastern Central Africa. The Western lowland gorilla subspecies occurs in West Africa and is the most widespread.

Western Gorillas-Eastern Gorillas are found in the Congolian Coastal Forests, Guinean Moist Forests, and Albertine Rift Highland Forests.
